The story about the ice cream was definitely the funniest!
When college girlfriends get together they obviously do a lot of talking. And while most of the first conversations are about the kids, the husbands, and current jobs, memories are always creeping in. In fact, it is often difficult to keep up with the ping ponging that goes on. One friend starts a story about her oldest daughter’s escapades while working at a local ice cream shop, and without fail the group falls back on one of the silliest capers of their days in college.
The story gets embellished with each telling, but the basics are that three of the girls in your group had promised each other that they would go out for their favorite soft serve crunch cones if they all did well on an exam. Two of the other girls in the group were more than a little sad that they were not included. As a result, the left out two concocted a crazy scheme where they borrowed some keys and made plans to hide in the truck of the car. With stealth like planning that surely should have been devoted to something far more academic, these two successfully stowed away and then surprised the original ice cream eating trio.
Every Good Gathering Deserves Ice Cream as a Dessert!
Whether you are college students pinching pennies or adults gathering to catch up on what’s new since your days in the dorm, ice cream is always a perfect part of any menu. And whether you create your own home ice cream buffet where everyone creates their own sundaes or you go to your favorite old hang out with the most adorable ice cream cups that have not changed in decades, you will likely have plenty of stories to share with your friends, while at the same time creating more sweet memories before the outing is over.
From college girlfriends to families who want to celebrate a recent victory on the ball diamond, it should come as no surprise that ice cream is a perfect offering. Consider some of these facts and figures about America’s favorite dessert:
- 40% of Americans will eat ice cream in any given two-week period, according to research by NPD Group.
- The average American will consume ice cream 28.5 times a year.
- There were an estimated 2,582 frozen yogurt stores at the end of 2013.
- 90% of U.S. households regularly indulge in a sweet, frozen treat.
- 1.5 billion gallons of ice cream and similar desserts produced in the U.S. every year.
- 9% of all the milk produced by U.S. dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream.
Summer time is an especially good time for gatherings of college friends, family members, and co workers. If you are hosing an event this summer that will be packed with great conversations of wonderful times together, remember to serve the dessert that everyone screams about: ice cream!
