Tasting spoons

Any time of the year is ice cream season. If summer is made for popsicles and ice cream cones, in winter it’s time for apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Or ice cream with hot chocolate sauce. Or…you get the idea. You can always find a reason to eat ice cream, especially if there are kids in your household. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep a supply of ice cream and gelato cups and spoons handy. You never know when the craving will strike and when it does, you’ve got to have the right stuff to give to troops.

Where’s the ice cream?
In the freezer of course, year round. And a lot of it, ideally. As soon as word gets around that there’s ice cream in the house, everyone will be hovering around with bowls and spoons and hopeful faces. And you don’t need to worry about the leftovers. With ice cream, there aren’t any.
Ice cream is the reigning favorite dessert in America and it’s not likely to lose the top spot any time soon. In fact in any two week period throughout the year, four out of ten or 40% of all Americans will confess to eating ice cream at least once. And probably more than just once.
Part of the reason for the popularity of ice cream is its versatility. It can be eaten by itself, with pies, cakes, fruit, coffee, and as accompaniment to a whole lot of hot drinks. Cold, sweet and versatile: it’s easy to see why ice cream is the great American comfort food.

What’s not to like?
Frozen treats like ice cream, gelato and frozen yogurts are household favorites and around 90% of all homes regularly indulge in the sweet, frozen treats. Given the simplicity of the ingredients, it’s easy to see this as a healthy, tasty treat that’s widely available.
To keep up with this massive demand, the production of ice cream is reaching epic proportions. Each year, 1.5 billion gallons of ice cream and other sweet frozen desserts are produced in the U.S. Almost 9% of the milk produced in the country is made into ice cream.
While the most ice cream is produced in June, the demand for ice cream remains high all year. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep plenty of ice cream and frozen dessert supplies handy as well. You never know when you’ll need them.

What’s your favorite flavor?
As you might expect, vanilla ice cream is the favorite flavor among consumers surveyed by member companies of the International Ice Cream Association. More than one fourth or 28% of those surveyed picked vanilla as their favorite.
Other popular frozen desserts include gelato and frozen yogurt. There’s a reason why these cold, sweet desserts are so popular. They provide an instantly refreshing, intense burst of flavor and taste. Served in brightly colored ice cream and gelato cups and spoons, they have an irresistible appeal.

Any time at all is a good time for a cup of your favorite frozen dessert, be it vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt. When stocking up on ice cream and gelato cups and spoons, don’t forget the drinks! Whether you’re having mulled cider, hot chocolate or a Moscow mule, a shot of vanilla ice cream is the best accompaniment!
